The Japanese drank different teas, including green tea. By the eighteenth Century the teapots made at Yixing, China, were being produced in shapes which had symbolic meanings, for example, peach shape for longer life and good luck, pomegranate for many, healthy children.

Early teapots, when imported to Europe, prompted potters to develop new variations of tea kettle culture. Britain, being more keen on tea drinking than the remainder of Europe, made the teapot their own specialty.

Currently, tea drinking is making a comeback in the U.S. Some state Americans are switching from "happy hour" to "tea time."
