The 1st tea pot originated in China in the 16th Century. The Japanese drank various teas, including green tea. By the eighteenth Century the teapots manufactured at Yixing, China, were being produced in shapes which had symbolic meanings, for example, peach shape for long life and good luck, pomegranate for numerous, healthy children.

Early teapots, when brought to Europe, prompted potters to prepare new variations of teapot culture. Britain, being more keen on tea drinking than the remainder of Europe, made the tea pot their own forte.
